Is Johns Hopkins better than Harvard

i plan to major in biomedical engineering for reference. if you are truly into bme and that is your life goal then jhu, but applying to harvard (which is not strong in engineering) and the fact that gt is not even in the list tells me you want to be something more then a bme. but i’m a biologist (not engineer) with a phd from princeton and a postdoc from jhu who worked at a research institute in boston that was not harvard, though i have some familiarity there. and whether you are applying to jobs or graduate programs, the reputation of your program will be known to insiders. the med school is in a significantly more marginal area but you won’t be living there. you can handle it if the other indications point clearly to h or p. my bias, in case that isn’t obvious, is jhu.

i would say princeton, solely because you put in that “it felt right” comment. i think princeton will give that to you because of no stress culture, not cutthroat, barely any grad school. normally, a free ride at a top school is a no brainer, but ~$5k for harvard or princeton are both also no brainers. maybe get in touch with the engineering department at princeton and see if people have approximated a bme major there. i would probably go to jhu in your position but i can’t fault you for any of those. you will be successful no matter where you go and especially since you want to go to grad school i really recommend the free option. i’ve talked to many people about the subject and we are near sighted teenagers after all, but almost everyone said to go to the free option.
