Training Plan Overview

With the development of information and technology economy, business has invested huge resources on the development of employees. The resources spent on training are astonishing. An estimated $50 billion is spent annually on formal training, with an additional $90 to $120 billion on less-structured, informal training according to surveys in early nineties. However, How much training content do employees retain 1 month, 6 months or 1 year after the training has been conducted? Estimates suggest that only 10%to 15%of training content is retained after 1 year . This problem is compounded when management believes that required regulatory training needs are met simply by completing and documenting the training, and pays no attention to training effectiveness.

Training needs analysis and assessment is key to improve training effectiveness before designing a training plan. A training needs assessment is used to determine whether training is the right solution to a workplace problem. It is an ongoing process of gathering data to determine what training needs exist so that training can be developed to help the organization accomplish its objectives. Essentially, information is collected and analyzed so a training plan can be created. The assessment determines the need for training, identifies what training is needed, and examines the type and scope of resources needed to support a training program

In the process of designing a personalized training plan, you need to consider the training plan style, training plan format and key elements for your template.

The first key part in training template is background information. In the section, you need to give information on training purpose, training scope, general training prerequisite etc. For example, you need to briefly summarize the general training prerequisites for each type of training mentioned in this plan.

The second key part in training plan sample is training approach. In the unit, you need to give details on training requirements, roles and responsibilities, schedules, curriculum etc. For example, you may describe or list the skills required to support project lifecycle activities and match those requirements to the existing personnel skill sets to determine the training need for the project. You may also describe the training techniques to be used. These techniques may include computer-based instruction, self-paced written manual, peer training, hands-on practical sessions, classroom lectures, or any combination of the above. Identify the tools needed for the training, such as online terminals or PC workstations, training manuals, classroom facilities, and any computer center resources.

The third key part in training plan example is evaluation. In the section, You need to give metrics and strategy for training evaluation. For example, outline the metrics that will be captured and how they will be captured. Some of the metrics that should be tracked include: total staff, number of attendees (estimated versus actual)etc. You also need to describe how feedback will be elicited from personnel to ensure that training objectives were met. Describe how the feedback received will be analyzed and what will be done with the analysis results to ensure that training objectives are met.
